CLEVELAND, Ga. (February 3, 2024) - The Truett McConnell University men's volleyball team showed out in their home match-up on Saturday against Benedict College, where the Bears secured their second sweep of the season with a final match score of 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-23) . TMU improves to a record of 2-4 on the season, while the Tigers fall to a record of 0-5.Â
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The first set proved a challenge for both teams as the score remained close due to sharp performances on both sides. The Bears were capable of pulling ahead with multiple sharp runs, featuring service aces by Nathan Hill and Caleb Bosveld. TMU took advantage of the Tigers struggling on the court, increasing the Bears lead to four (22-18). Benedict worked to even the play at the end but two Alex Bowman kills secured the win for TMU (25-21). Set two saw the Tigers attack first with a run of their own, but the Bears were not shaken as a kill from Bosman sparked a TMU rally (12-14). The home team bridged the gap after back-to-back errors from the Tigers, followed by stealing the lead with three sharp kills from Bosveld and an eight point run (25-19).Â
The Bears gained momentum in set three as they hit the board first with back-to-back kills by Bosveld and Wensky Saintilmond. Benedict kept the set close, combatting each point with one of their own. A Kill from Troy McAlester and two service aces by Bosman gave the Bears the advantage as the end drew near, while a final kill from Bosveld and serve from Nathan Hill closed out the match with a score of 25-23.Â
LEADERSÂ
Bosveld led the way for the Bears with 11 kills and 10 digs, while Bosman recorded 11 kills of his own. Saintilmond tallied 26 assists on the day and 111 digs, while Hill had six digs and McAlister had five kills.Â
