LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (February 29, 2024) - On Thursday, the RV Truett McConnell University softball team hit the road to face No. 4 Georgia Gwinnett College, where the Lady Bears fell by slim margins in game one and stumbled in game two against the Grizzlies (10-8, 8-0).
GAME ONE | 8-10 LOSS
In the top of the first, TMU wasted no time as they hit the board first after a single to centerfield by Cassie Boatright scored Rebekah Graham, followed by a RBI double from Hailey Cronic to score two more runs (3-0). GGC responded immediately in the bottom of the inning with four runs of their own, heading into the second inning with the lead (3-4). The Lady Bears struck again in the top of the third inning when a Grace Folds double to right center scored Kyndall Gipson, followed by a Rachel Morgan double to score Cronic and a Camryn Halliday RBI single to score Grace Folds (6-4).
The Grizzlies added a single run in the bottom of the third, but a Boatright single sent Jenna O'Brien home, allowing TMU to remain on top (7-5). GGC gained momentum in the fourth and fifth inning to steal the lead (7-8), but another Morgan RBI single helped bridge the gap for the Lady Bears (8-8). The sixth saw GGC pull away with the lead after two game changing runs, ultimately resulting in a final score of 8-10.Â
LEADERS
Gipson led the way going 3 for 4 at the plate, along with recording three runs. Boatright and Cronic individually went 2 for 3 at the plate with two RBIs and one run, followed by Morgan who went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and O'Brien who went 1 for 4 with one run and one walk.Â
