Baseball suffers loss after late rally by Point

WEST POINT, Ga. (February 20, 2024) - The Truett McConnell University baseball team hit the road on Tuesday to face Point University in a non-conference match-up, where the Bears fell to a late rally by the Skyhawks with a final score of 8-4.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

Caleb Ramsey sparked the top of the first inning for the Bears with a couple to center field, followed by a Brodie Genter to single to advance Ramsey to third and an RBI from Tanner Griffith to record the first run of the game. Point evened the play in the bottom of the second inning with a run of their own, while TMU worked to regain the lead in the top of the fourth. Matthew Redmond made it on base after a hit by pitch, followed by a Jacob Karvelas double to put runners in scoring position. A misplayed ball hit by Genter offered the Bears the opportunity they needed to score two, making the score 3-1. The Skyhawks gained momentum in the final innings to force TMU to work under pressure by adding seven runs on the board. Genter recorded the Bears final run of the game in the top of the ninth in big with a home run over the left field fence, ultimately not enough as TMU fell to a final score of 4-8.

LEADERS

Genter led the way at the plate going 2 for 5 with three RBIs and one run, while Karvelas went 2 for 3 at the plate with one run and one walk. Ramsey went 1 for 3 with one run and two walks Redmond went 1 for 2 with one walk and one run.
