Lady Bears soar past Skyhawks in non-conference match up

CLEVELAND, Ga. (December 14, 2024) - On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University women's basketball team hosted Point University for a non-conference match-up where the Lady Bears secured the win, 61-56. 

PLAY-BY-PLAY
In the first quarter, both teams battled for the early lead as layups by Ava Queen and Alexis Brewster kept TMU on top. A three-pointer and layup by Kayleigh Kelley continued to push the Lady Bears forward ending the quarter with a score of 13-10. The second quarter saw TMU turn up the heat with a good three-pointer and consecutive layups by Brewster. A layup by Brinkley Kate Reed followed by another three-pointer by Brewster, gave the Lady Bears a 15 point lead as TMU entered the half with a score of 33-18. 

TMU kept the momentum rolling in the third quarter as a good three-pointer by Mahalah Stewart began regulation. Madison Aguilera followed with a three-pointer and jump shot of her own to increase the lead to 19. Good defense by the Lady Bears kept TMU ahead of the Skyhawks, 46-37 as both teams entered the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, PU fought back against the Lady Bears eager to change the outcome of the game. A last chance effort by the Skyhawks attempted to disrupt the Lady Bears rhythm, but was u successful as four final made free throws by Brewster sealed the deal on a TMU win, 61-56.

LEADERS
Brewster led the way recording a double-double, with 24 points and 12 rebounds while also tallying three blocks and going 6-6 at the free throw line. Stewart followed with nine points, while Aguilera had eight points, Kelley had seven points and Reed had six points.

UP NEXT
The Lady Bears will travel to face Montreat College  on Saturday, January 4 for an AAC match-up. Tip-off set for 2:00 p.m.
