MILLIGAN, Tenn. (November 2, 2024) - On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team traveled to compete in an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up against Milligan University, where the Lady Bears battled through five sets, ultimately falling 3-2 (25-19, 18-25, 25-15, 12-25, 13-15). TMU falls to an overall record of 12-17, 9-10 AAC.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
Kills by Elizabeth Franklin, Katie Williams and Faith Clarkson began set one play as the Lady Bears looked to take an early lead. An early four-point rally by TMU, featuring kills by Sameily Marquez and Jordan Roberts, ultimately placed the Lady Bears in perfect position to take set one. A final kill by Williams ultimately secured the set win, 25-19. Set two saw both teams battle early, eager to gain control of the game. Two four-point rallies by the Buffaloes ultimately shut down set two, 25-18.Â
Set three saw the Lady Bears up first with kills by Claudia Yates and Williams. A four-point rally by TMU, featuring two serving aces by Camille Godfrey proved capable of propelling the Lady Bears forward. A final kill by Clarkson ultimately gave TMU set three, 25-15. In set four, Milligan proved to be a tough competitor, recording a seven-point rally to take the early lead. Kills by Williams, Franklin and Clarkson, once again attempted to disrupt the Buffaloes momentum, but was ultimately not enough, forcing a fifth set, 25-12.
In the final set, TMU was quick to make their mark with a kill by Williams. The Lady Bears continued to hold their own, taking an early lead with back-to-back kills by Clarkson. Both teams continued to fight for the win, with MU pulling ahead after recording a six-point rally. Consecutive block assists by Williams and Franklin, and Franklin and Clarkson, gave the Lady Bears hope at changing the game but was ultimately short lived as a final kill by the Buffaloes, took set five 15-13.Â
LEADERS
Williams led the way with 13 kills, one solo block, and two block assists. Marquez followed with 11 kills, while Clarkson had nine kills and a block assist. Roberts was featured recording seven kills and two solo blocks, while Franklin tallied seven kills and three block assists. Emma Boland was seen recording 23 assists and 16 digs, respectfully. Â
