Women’s Basketball collects AAC road win

COLUMBIA, S.C. (November 20, 2024) - On Wednesday, the Truett McConnell University women's basketball team traveled to compete in and Appalachian Athletic Conference match up against Columbia International University, where the Lady Bears showed their grit working together to secure the win, 59-51. TMU rises to an overall record of 2-4, 1-1, while CIU falls to a record of 0-5, 0-3.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
The first quarter began with both teams trying to find their place on the board. A layup by Carsyn Ward followed by consecutive three-pointers by Mahalah Stewart and Kayleigh Kelley, put TMU up with a small lead. CIU quickly responded with two good shots of their own, taking over the board with a score of 11-8. The second quarter saw the Rams continue to increase the gap eager to create  space against TMU, but the Lady Bears were not shaken as good three-pointers by Stewart and Alissa Winter decrease the gap. A layup by Alexis Brewster, followed by a good jump shot by Madison Aguilera proved the Lady Bears capable of tying up the game, 26-26. 

TMU recorded a sharp third quarter, holding the rams to four points and recording 21 of their own, featuring good layups by Ava Queen, Brewster and Kelley, paired with a good three pointer by Brinkley Kate Reed (47-30). In the final quarter, TMU continued to hold their own with a good layup and three-pointer by Aguilera. A final last chance effort by the Rams attempted to change the outcome of the game, but the Lady Bears strong second half performance could not be diminished. Final score 59-51. 

LEADERS
Brewster led the way with 14 points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Reed followed with 11 points, while Kelley recorded 10 points and Stewart had nine points. Aguilera was featured recording seven points and six assists on the evening.

UP NEXT
The Lady Bears will travel to face AAC opponent Brenau University on Saturday, November 23. Tip-off set for 2:00 p.m.
