Men's Soccer closes regular season with AAC road win

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (October 23, 2024) – On Wednesday, the Truett McConnell University men's soccer team traveled to compete in their final regular season Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up against the University of Pikeville, where the Bears recorded a 2-1 win. TMU rises to an overall record of 10-4-1, 8-3-1 AAC. 
 
PLAY-BY-PLAY
In the first half, TMU was first at the net taking three consecutive shots with two by Pablo Farrona and one by Toby Berry. Both teams continued to battle back and forth, taking every shot made available, when in the 30thminute, UPike found themselves first on the board (0-1). The Bears wasted no time responding to UPike's early lead as a James Aspinall found a good ball off a corner kick by Marco Mandelka in the 39th minute capable of placing it into the back of the net, 1-1. In the second half, TMU found success once more as a header goal by Oscar Brennan, assisted by Gavin Eddy, put the Bears on top, 2-1. A last chance effort by UPike attempted to bridge the gap created by TMU, but the home team was unsuccessful as great defense by the Bears secured the win, 2-1.
 
LEADERS
Aspinall and Brennan led the way for TMU with one goal apiece. Farrona followed with six shots, four on goal, while Mandelka and Eddy each tallied one assist. Jose Ventura was seen taking three shots, all on goal, while Berry had two shots.
 
UP NEXT
The Bears will be back in action on Thursday, November 7th, as they begin AAC Tournament play. Match time, location, and opponent set to be determined.
