Bears unable to bridge gap, fall against Reinhardt

WALESKA, Ga. (January 10, 2023) – On Wednesday, the Truett McConnell University men's basketball team traveled to compete in an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up against Reinhardt University, where the Bears put up a fight, but ultimately were unable to bridge the gap against the Eagles, 82-73. TMU falls to an overall record of 7-9, 5-7 AAC, while RU rises to a record of 6-9, 5-7 AAC.
 
PLAY-BY-PLAY
In the first half, RU was first on the board, with TMU quickly responding with a layup by Cory Seitz. Both teams continued to battle back and forth for the early lead, when the Eagles managed to put up nine points over the Bears. TMU continued to work hard from behind, when a three pointer by Akil Covington, followed by layups from Seitz and Cainan Wright attempted to decrease the gap, but was ultimately not enough to tie up the game, trailing at the half, 31-44. 
 
The second half saw the Eagles first on the board once more, with Covington responding quickly with a good three-pointer. Eager to increase their lead, the Eagles continued to push ahead, but TMU did not lose heart, working together as a team to have a chance at the win. Three final three-pointers by KJ Riley, Raul Arias-Ortega and Jadon Yeh proved to be a valiant effort by the Bears but was ultimately not enough to change the result of the game, falling to a final score of 73-82.
 
LEADERS
Riley led the way for the Bears with 21 points and five rebounds, while going 3-3 at the free throw line. Seitz followed with 14 points, while Yeh contributed 11 points and five assists. Covington and CJ Brown both contributed seven points a piece.
 
UP NEXT
The Bears will travel to Grayson, Ky. on Saturday, January 13, to take on Kentucky Christian University for an AAC match-up. Tip-off to be announced.
