MILLIGAN, Tenn. (September 13, 2023) - The No. 22 Truett McConnell University women's soccer team hit the road on Wednesday to face Milligan University in their first official Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up of the season. A dominate first half for the Lady Bears saw eight shots to Milligan's one shot, while TMU continued to press with 10 more shots in the second half, capable of finding the back of the net twice to secure their first conference victory with a score of 2-1. The Lady Bears are currently sitting at a season record of 1-2-2, 1-0 AAC.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
TMU was hot out the gates from the start with two back-to-back shots by Ximena Solis Zegarra, followed by shots on goal by Nadiia Ivanchenko and Eliska Dvorakova. Three more shots saw the Lady Bears resilient on offense, as a final effort shot by Marisol Esparza barely missed the mark due to a save by the home team keeper at halftime.
The Lady Bears gained speed in the second half, featuring a shot on goal by Dvorakova and shot wide by Ashley Johnson. In the 54th minute, a perfect set-up by Chrissy Mitchell found the foot of Sarah Currey to record the first goal of the day for TMU (1-0). The Lady Bears continued to put pressure on the Buffs with six more shots and three earned corner kicks, capable of finding the back of the net once again in the 79th minutes with a perfect shot by Amayia Lukie. Milligan fought back in the final minutes with a goal of their own, but TMU remained steady on defense to secure the win with a final score of 2-1.
LEADERS
Currey led the way for the Lady Bears with two shots on goal and one goal, followed by Lukie who recorded two shots, one on goal, and a single goal. Dvorakova had four shots of her own, two on goal, while Solis Zegarra had three shots, one on goal, and Mitchell tallied a single assist.
