Lady Bears collect second AAC sweep over Montreat

MONTREAT, N.C. (September 12, 2023) – On Tuesday, the Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team traveled to Montreat College to take on the Cavaliers in an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up, where the Lady Bears defeated Montreat to a final set score of 3-1 (25-17, 25-19, 21-25, 25-19). TMU increases their overall record to 7-5, 2-1 AAC, while Montreat falls to a record of 2-2, 0-2 AAC.
 
PLAY-BY-PLAY
In the first set, the Lady Bears took an early lead over the Cavaliers, featuring three kills by Katie Williams, Faith Clarkson and Ranavia Neal. TMU continued to fight hard, increasing the margin by 10-points. A last chance five-point rally by the Cavaliers attempted to close the gap, but the Lady Bears were not shaken as final kills by Jordan Roberts and Williams sealed the deal in the first set, 25-17. The second set saw the Cavaliers with an early lead but kills by Sonya Silecky and Roberts put the Lady Bears in the lead. The set remained evenly matched, until back-to-back kills by Clarkson and Silecky gave TMU the win, 25-19.
 
In the third set, TMU attacked hard with kills by Neal and Clarkson. The Lady Bears remained ahead until a last minute five-point rally by Montreat gave them the advantage. TMU attempted to recover, but a final four-point rally by Montreat gave the Cavaliers set three, 21-25. In the fourth set the Lady Bears took an early lead once again with a four-point rally, featuring a service ace by Madyson Dunn and a kill by Silecky. Montreat attempted to close the gap but great defense by TMU paired with a final kill by Neal, proved the Lady Bears capable of securing the fourth set, 25-19, winning the match, 3-1.
 
LEADERS
Williams led the way with 17 kills and three block assists. Neal followed with 13 kills and four block assists, while Silecky had nine kills, one block and 13 digs. Clarkson recorded eight kills, along with nine kills from Roberts. Dunn recorded two service aces, while Rylee Simpson recorded 47 assists on the day.
 
UP NEXT
The Lady Bears will hit the road on Friday, September 15, for an AAC match-up against Kentucky Christian University. Match time set for 6:30 p.m.
