CLEVELAND, Ga. (August 26, 2023) - The Truett McConnell University men's soccer team opened their 2023 season with a bang as they captured a big 2-0 win over Middle Georgia State, inside the TMU Soccer Complex.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The first seven minutes of play saw both teams equally matched on the field, until a perfectly shot ball from Jez Walker-Paterson found the back of the net to put TMU ahead 1-0. Shots from Will Fraser-Gray and Ivan Serubiri continued to add pressure to the Knights defense, followed by earned corner kicks from the Bears to keep TMU on top at the half.
TMU did not hesitate to keep high intensity in the second half with shots from Fraser-Gray, Max Farris and Caleb Diaz at the start. The 57th minute saw the Bears hit the board once again with a dynamite shot from Max Farris to make the score 2-0. TMU was capable of holding the Knights for the remainder of the game to secure the shutout (2-0), featuring clutch saves from Aleksa Lukic in goal and an unbreakable Bears defense.
LEADERS
Farris led the way with one goal and seven shots, two on goal, while Fraser-Gray recorded three shots on goal and Walker-Paterson had one goal of his own. Lukic made his debut as a Bear in goal, along with recording four saves on the day.
