CLEVELAND, Ga. (April 4, 2023) - The No. 23 Truett McConnell University softball team hosted No. 13 Middle Georgia State on Tuesday, where the Lady Bears hot bats and sharp defense secured the sweep over the Knights with a final score of 5-0 and 6-5.
GAME 1 | 5-0
Game one saw the Lady Bears strike first in the bottom of the third inning after a. Kyndall Gipson RBI single to right field scored Justine Gorton and Grace Folds (2-0). The following three innings saw both teams quiet on offense, while Kyleigh Sanders held her own from the mound, allowing only two hits. TMU ultimately put the game out of reach in the bottom of the sixth inning as Rachel Morgan stepped up to the plate and scored Cassie Boatright from second to make score 3-0. Folds followed the action with a double to deep left field to score Anna Thomas and Makaela Davis, ultimately resulting in a final score of 5-0.
LEADERS
Cronic led the way going 2-3 at the plate, while Folds went 1-3 at the plate with two RBIs and one run. Gorton went 1-4 with one run, followed by Gipson who went 1-3 with two RBIs. Sanders recorded the win from the mound after pitching through seven innings, allowing only two hits and zero runs, as well as tallying seven strikeouts and one walk.
GAME 2 | 6-4
Middle GA gained speed in game two, hitting the board in the top of the first inning to make the score 0-1. A Boatright RBI single in the bottom of the first evened the score 1-1, while TMU's bats were electric in the third inning as they put up three runs, featuring a Jenna O'Brien sacrifice but that caused mayhem and a bomb from Boatright over the left field fence (4-1). The Knights responded in the top of the fourth and fifth with two runs, while the Lady Bears remained on top with an RBI single from Morgan in the bottom of the fifth (5-3). The top of the sixth saw Middle GA even the score, forcing TMU to stay sharp on defense to keep the Knights at bay going into the final inning. Pitcher Olivia Haag showed her grit to lead TMU in to the bottom of the seventh with the score still even, while Morgan stepped up big time as she sent the ball over the left field fence to send the Lady Bears to victory in walk-off fashion.
LEADERS
Boatright led the way going 2-4 at the plate, along with tallying two RBIs and two runs. Morgan followed going 2-4 at the plate with one run and two RBIs, while Cronic went 2-2 with one walk. Gipson recorded the win after pitching through four innings, while Haag recorded the save after pitching through two innings.

The Lady Bears are back in action Wednesday, April 5 as they travel to face Milligan University in a doubleheader set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
