Bears fly past Toccoa in comeback win, extend win streak to 12

CLEVELAND, Ga. (April 18, 2023) – The Truett McConnell University baseball team hosted Toccoa Falls College inside the TMU Baseball Complex for a mid-week non-conference matchup, where an early lead from the Eagles was no match for the Bear's late offensive rally (10-7). TMU rises to an overall record of 31-10, extending their win streak to an impressive 12 games.

PLAY-BY-PLAY | 10-7

The Eagles took an early lead recording three runs on four hits over three innings (0-3). TMU responded in the bottom of the fourth with a Mikal Mascarello walk and Caleb Gentry single. With runners in scoring position, a walk from Jakob Karvelas, Jake Edwards and Caleb Williams pushed across the Bears' first runs (2-3). The Eagles quickly retaliated with two runs on one hit in the top of the fifth to create a larger margin (2-5). The Bears were disciplined at the plate seeing walks from Tanner Griffith, Andrew Johnston, Matthew Redmond and Edwards to chip at the deficit (3-5). The Eagles continued to add to their lead, until walks from Redmond and Karvelas put runners in scoring position and a passed ball gave an opportunity for TMU to score (4-6). The top of the eighth inning saw TFC score their final run of the day on one hit and capitalize on defensive errors (4-7). A pivotal bottom of the eighth was sparked by a Jordan Kenty single to right field, paired with Ethan Roberts and Griffith hit by pitches to load the bases. A sacrifice fly from Johnston combined with a clutch Redmond single to right field evened the score (7-7). A Karvelas walk and electric Edwards double captured the lead for TMU, followed by a sacrifice fly from Russell Kiser to secure a 10-7 come-back victory over the Eagles.

LEADERS

Kenty led the way offensively, going 2-3 with one run, while Roberts went 1-3 with one run. Redmond was seen going 1-1 at the plate with two RBIs and three runs, while Edwards went 1-3 with three RBIs.

Pitcher John James recorded the win after showcasing a clutch pitching performance, only allowing one hit over one inning. Jonathan Joiner recorded the save after recording two strikeouts to close the game.
