CLEVELAND, Ga. (April 15, 2023) - The Truett McConnell University softball team hosted No. 10 Georgia Gwinnett College inside the TMU Softball Complex, where the Lady Bears overcame a pitcher's duel in game one (1-0) but were unable to spark their offense in game two (0-5). TMU sits at an overall record of 29-11, while the Grizzlies sit at an overall record of 32-9.
GAME 1 | 1-0
In game one, both teams were challenged with a pitcher's duel. TMU recorded the first hit of the day in the bottom of the first with a single to left field from Briley Lawson but were unable to capitalize. The Grizzlies responded with a lone hit of their own, but TMU's defense held them at bay. The bottom of the second was sparked by a double from Cassie Boatright, paired with singles from Mattie Brooks and Hailey Cronic to load the bases but TMU was unable to push a run across. The Lady Bears' lone run of the day was a solo blast to right field from Boatright in the bottom of the fourth, where a clutch pitching performance from Kyleigh Sanders held the Grizzlies at bay to secure a 1-0 victory.
LEADERS
Boatright led the way, going 2-3 at the plate with one RBI and one run. Lawson, Brooks, and Cronic recorded one hit apiece.
Pitcher Sanders went the distance, recording five strikeouts and only allowing three hits.
GAME 2 | 0-5
The Grizzlies jumped on the board early with one run on one hit in the top of the first inning (1-0). The top of the second saw GGC continue to tack on runs with three runs on three hits (4-0). The Lady Bears worked hard to put the ball in play but were unable to find any gaps. The Grizzlies recorded their final run of the day in the top of the sixth (5-0).
LEADERS
Pitcher Kyndall Gipson recorded five strikeouts over seven innings.
