Lacrosse falls in nail-biter against Brenau on the road

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (March 4, 2023) - On Saturday, the Truett McConnell Women's lacrosse team traveled to Brenau University for an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up. The Lady Bears put up a tough fight, but it ultimately wasn't enough suffering a tough loss of 16-15.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

In the first quarter, Brenau was first on the board, forcing a quick response from the Lady Bears as Shelby Nail, Katelyn Morgenroth, and Katie Smith all scored a goal each (5-3). In the second quarter, eager to decrease the gap, the Lady Bears held Brenau to two goals, scoring three of their own by Smith, Marlo McBrayer, and Nail, entering the half tied, 7-7. 

The third quarter saw action on both sides of the field as the Lady Bears fought hard to stay in the game. Goals by Nail and Gracie Wilber kept the game tied 10-10 as TMU entered the fourth quarter. In the final quarter, a last chance effort by Nail, Morgenroth, and McBrayer, attempted to put the Bears on top but it was ultimately not enough to secure the win, resulting in a final score of 16-15.

LEADERS

Nail led the way with seven goals, taking 14 shots, 11 on goal, and six ground balls.

Smith followed with two goals, taking seven shots, five on goal, and five ground balls. Mcbrayer and Wilber had two goals each, both taking four shots, three on goal, and two ground balls. Morgenroth had two goals, taking two shots, all on goal. Goalie Mackenzie Tyler had seven ground balls and 19 saves on the day.

UP NEXT

The Lady Bears will be back in action at home Wednesday, March 8, as they host Lourdes University for a non-conference match-up inside the TMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex. Game time set for 2:30 p.m.
