Men's volleyball suffer tough AAC losses on the road

BABSON PARK, Fla. (March 11-12, 2023) – The Truett McConnell University men's volleyball team hit the road for a weekend Florida road trip, with stops to face Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent Warner University and Webber International University. The Bears fought with grit against the Royals but fell short (18-25, 21-25, 15-25) while TMU was unable to rally against the Warriors on day two (15-25, 13-25, 19-25). TMU falls to a record of 0-14, 0-8 AAC.

The Royals took an early lead, but a kill from Jackson Adams kept TMU in the set. A two-point rally featuring a kill from Nathan Hill, Adams, and Kyle Gregory quickly chipped at the Bears' deficit. A five-point rally from TMU saw two service aces from Gregory to bring TMU within four. A late four-point rally from the Royals left the Bears to fall in set one (18-25). In set two, the Royals were first on the board but TMU stole the lead with kills from Adams and Hill. A six-point rally featured kills from Hill, paired with a service ace from Adams to create a large margin. A five-point rally from the Royals saw both teams evenly matched until a late rally from the Royals propelled them forward. A late three-point rally featuring a Hill service ace was not enough as TMU fell, 21-25. In the final set, both teams were neck-and-neck, seeing kills from Gregory, Hill, and Alex Bosman until the Royals broke away with a four-point rally. Kills from Hill, Gregory, and Adams were not enough as TMU fell, 15-25. 


LEADERS 

Hill led the way with eight kills and six digs, while Adams recorded five kills, one block and nine digs. Gregory contributed five kills and two service aces, while Wensky Saintilmond tallied 20 assists and one block.

The Bears were first on the board with kills from Gregory, Hill, and Adams to take an early lead. The Warriors responded quickly with a six-point rally to steal the lead. A three-point rally from TMU featured kills from Gregory and a service ace from Saintilmond to chip away at the deficit. A late five-point rally from the Warriors left TMU to fall, 15-25. In set two, the Warriors continued to be aggressive with an early five-point lead. Kills from Hill, Gregory, and Adams sparked the Bears' momentum and chipped at the margin. A late three-point rally featured a kill from Bosman but was ultimately not enough (13-25). In the final set, both teams were evenly matched, seeing kills from Gregory and Hill. A four-point rally from TMU featured Gregory's service ace and a kill from Hill to take an early lead. The Bears remained on top with kills from Bosman and Hill until a late rally from the Warriors stole the lead. A late spark of hope saw kills from Bosman and Gregory but could not turn the tide (19-25). 


LEADERS 

Gregory led the way with seven kills while Bosman recorded six kills, five digs, and two blocks. Hill tallied five kills and five digs while Saintilmond recorded four digs. 


UP NEXT 

The Bears travel to Marietta, Ga. on Saturday, March 18 to face AAC rival Life University. Match time is set for 12:00 p.m.
