CLEVELAND, Ga. (March 10, 2023) - The Truett McConnell University softball team hosted Saint Xavier University on Friday inside the TMU Softball Complex. The Lady Bears saw their eight-game winning streak come to an end in game one (0-2), but managed to split the doubleheader with the Cougars as they gained momentum in game two (6-4). TMU's record moves to 9-3 on the season while SXU's record shifts to 13-9.

GAME 1 | 0-2

The first seven innings went scoreless, while TMU got their first hit in the second inning when Cassie Boatright lined a triple to center field. Two more hits would come for the Lady Bears in the third and the sixth innings from Grace Folds and Justine Gorton, but the game was forced into extra innings as the Lady Bears continued to work on offense and Kyleigh Sanders shut down the Cougars bats. St. Xavier broke the scoreless board with two runs in the top half of the eighth giving the game the final 0-2 score.

In the second inning, Boatright singled and was followed by Isabelle Sullivan lining a base hit to center. Two batters later, Rachel Morgan launched her first home run of the year to put TMU up 4-2. The next two innings would go scoreless until SXU tied the game up 4-4 with two runs in the top of the fifth inning. In the bottom half, TMU answered with three hits and two runs of their own. Gorton led off with a single to left and would advance to second on a stolen base. Lawson followed it up with an RBI single which sent Gorton home.
