Women’s basketball concludes 2022-23 season

 

CLEVELAND, Ga. (February 18, 2023) - The Truett McConnell University women's basketball team hosted Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Brenau University, where the Lady Bears fell short in the final minutes to conclude their 2022-23 season (60-63). TMU finishes with a record of 7-20, 6-18 AAC.

PLAY BY PLAY
The Lady Bears had to work from behind early, responding with a layup from Camilla Callihan and Sydnie Smith paired with a three-point shot from Alysee Dobbs. The Golden Tigers continued to add to their lead, but free throws from Dobbs and a layup from Quan Holton cut the deficit to seven (13-20). In the second quarter, a shot in the paint from Dobbs and Callihan worked to cut the margin. A shot behind the three-point arc and layup from Dobbs was paired with a layup from Holton to bring TMU within three. A jump shot from Jordyn Wilder and layup from Holton sent the Lady Bears into the half trailing, 29-33.

In the third quarter, layups from Dobbs, Holton and Callihan continued to chip at the margin. Free throws from Holton combined with a layup from Dobbs and Holton brought TMU within four. Clutch free throws from Callihan sparked the Lady Bears' momentum going into the final quarter (44-46). In the fourth quarter, TMU quickly tied the score with a clutch shot in the paint from Holton. Both teams were evenly matched, seeing back-to-back three-pointers from Dobbs and free throws from Callihan to give TMU their first lead of the game. In the final minutes, the Golden Tigers responded with shots of their own to recapture the lead. A layup from Callihan gave the Lady Bears hope, but was ultimately not enough as TMU fell, 60-63.

LEADERS
Most notable, Dobbs recorded a double-double with 27 points, going 10-22 in the paint with 11 rebounds. Holton followed with 14 points, going 6-13 in the paint with eight rebounds. Callihan tallied 13 points, going 5-7 at the free-throw line with three steals and five rebounds.
