Bears take down Montreat at home

CLEVELAND, Ga. (November 18, 2023) – On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University men's basketball team hosted Montreat College for an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up, where the Bears captured a dominating win against the Cavaliers with a final score of 77-59. TMU rises to an overall record of 5-5, 4-4 AAC, while MC falls to a record of 4-4, 3-3 AAC.
 
PLAY-BY-PLAY
In the first half, MC was first on the board, while TMU was not far behind with a layup by CJ Brown. The Bears continued to fight for the lead as back-to-back three pointers by KJ Riley, assisted by Jadon Yeh, sent TMU ahead by six. Eagar to increase the margin, three-pointers by Yeh, Cory Seitz and Micah Stenson, paired with layups by EJ Smith and Raul Arias-Ortega proved the Bears to be a fierce competitor as TMU entered the half, 35-24.
 
The second half saw the Cavaliers first to the basket once again, but Montreat's effort was short lived as a layup by Brown, three-pointer by Akil Covington and a dunk by Riley increased the deficit by 14 points. The Bears showed no mercy against the visiting team as a layup and good free throw by Riley, followed by three pointers by Smith and Yeh, put TMU up by 23. The Bears continued to hold their lead as good free throws by Brown, Riley and Yeh, followed by a jump shot by Andrew Lang, sealed the deal on an dynamite Bears win (77-59).
 
LEADERS
Riley led the way for the Bears with 21 points, nine rebounds, going 6-7 at the free throw line and 3-4 at the three-point arch. Brown followed with 12 points and five rebounds, while Smith recorded 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Yeh was seen tallying eight points, while Covington contributed five assists.
 
UP NEXT
The Bears will be back in action on Thursday, December 7, as they host New College of Florida for a non-conference match-up. Tip-off set for 11:00 a.m.
