Men's Soccer closes out 2023 season in AAC Quarterfinal

LAURINBURG, N.C. (November 3, 2023) – On Friday, the No. 5 seed Truett McConnell University men's soccer team traveled to compete against No. 4 St. Andrews University in their first round of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament. The Bears played with heart as they battled until the very end, ultimately unable to secure the win as the game resulted in a final score of 4-0. TMU concludes the 2023 season with an overall record of 9-3-4, 7-2-4, while SAU rises to a record of 10-5-2.
 
PLAY-BY-PLAY
In the first half, TMU was quick to act with two shots by Jose Ventura, followed by a shot from Oscar Brennan within the first twelve minutes of regulation. The Bears continued to work together across the field, but in the 20th minute a shot by SAU connected with the back of the net to give the Knights the lead (0-1). Both teams went head-to-head for the remainder of the half, while a final shot on goal by Lucan Yates attempted to even the play. 
 
The Knights gained speed right from the start of the second half, scoring their second and third goal to increase the gap (0-3). A corner kick off the foot of Brennan in the 77th minute attempted to connect with Hendrik Metje as seen by a header shot that just went wide. SAU continued to increase their lead, scoring their fourth goal of the day in the 86th minute to put the game out of reach with a score of 0-4. 
 
LEADERS
Ventura led the way for the Bears taking three shots, while Metje, Yates and Brennan all followed with one shot apiece.
