CLEVELAND, Ga. (November 14, 2023) – On Tuesday, the Truett McConnell University women's basketball team hosted Milligan University for an Appalachian Athletic Complex match-up, where the Lady Bears suffered a tough loss to the Buffaloes with a final score of 80-48. TMU falls to an overall record of 1-4, 1-2 AAC, while MU rises to an overall record of 5-1, 3-0. Â
PLAY-BY-PLAYÂ
In the first period, a three-pointer by Chloe Williams put the Lady Bears on the board. The visiting team quickly took control of the game, but a jump shot by Megan Mares tipped the scales in the Lady Bears favor. The Lady Bears continued to work under pressure, but as a layup by Alexis Brewster followed by a three-pointer from Mahalah Stewart worked to decrease the scoring gap, heading into the second period, 29-11. MU once again took the lead in the second quarter, eager to increase their lead, when back-to-back layups by Stewart, followed by a final layup by Brewster, sent TMU into the half, 44-17.Â
The third period saw the visiting team first to act, but good free throws by Brewster and Stewart paired with a jump shot by Stewart gave the Lady Bears momentum to carry forward. In the final period, a jump shot by Alysee Dobbs followed by a layup from Faith Lovejoy gave TMU hope. Back-to-back layups by Brewster proved to be a final effort to decrease the margin, but ultimately was not enough as the Lady Bears fell to the Buffaloes with a final score of 80-46.Â
LEADERSÂ Stewart led the way with 19 points and three rebounds, while going 2-3 at the free throw line. Brewster followed with 15 points and six rebounds. Dobbs, Williams and Kelley all recorded three points a piece.Â
