GAINESVILLE, Ga. (October 31, 2023) - On Tuesday, the Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team traveled to compete in their final regular season match-up, against Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent, Brenau University, where the Lady Bears played with heart through five sets, but ultimately were unable to come out with the win, 2-3 (21-25, 25-23, 14-25, 25-21, 12-15). TMU falls to an overall record of 22-11, 14-6 AAC, while BU rises to a record of 12-16, 10-10 AAC.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
Set one saw BU first on the board, with the Lady Bears quickly responding with a kill by Jordan Roberts. The set remained evenly matched with both teams battling for the lead as kills by Ranavia Neal, Katie Williams and Leah Bowen, paired with a service ace from Sonya Silecky, kept TMU a strong contender. A last chance three-point rally by the Golden Tigers ultimately gave BU the win, 21-25. The second set saw a change in momentum for the Lady Bears as a block assist by Williams and Neal, put TMU up first. BU put up a fight, forcing TMU to bear down with kills by Bowen and Neal. A last chance effort by BU was ultimately not enough as back-to-back kills by Williams secured the win in set two, 25-23.
The third set saw the Golden Tigers first to take action with a six-point rally. TMU fought hard to keep up with kills by Neal and Williams, but ultimately were unable to recover, falling in set three, 14-25. TMU fought back with a kill by Roberts to begin set four. The set once more remained evenly matched with both teams going head-to-head for the win, when final kills by Silecky and Neal, proved the Lady Bears a tough opponent, winning set four, 25-21.
In the final set, BU was first to attack but the Lady Bears did not lose hope as a five-point rally put TMU up by two, featuring two kills by Williams and one from Bowen. The Lady Bears battled hard against the Golden Tigers when a final five-point rally by BU ultimately proved no match for TMU, falling in the final set, 12-15.
LEADERS
Williams led the way for TMU with 14 kills and three block assists. Neal followed closely behind with 12 kills, one solo block, and tallying an impressive six block assists, while Bowen had nine kills and one block assists. Roberts and Silecky, each recorded eight kills apiece. Rachel Kessler had 21 digs on the evening, while Emma Boland had 29 assists.

The Lady Bears will be back in action on Thursday, November 9, as TMU travels to Kingsport, Tenn. for the AAC Tournament. Match opponent and time to be determined.
