Lady Bears go 2-0 in final home tri-match

CLEVELAND, Ga. (October 24, 2023) – On Tuesday, the Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team hosted St. Andrews University and Faulkner University for a tri-match, where the Lady Bears clinched double the wins after sweeping both teams with match scores of 3-0. TMU rises to an overall record of 21-9, 13-4 AAC.
 
MATCH 1: TMU vs. SAU (25-18, 25-18, 25-9)
The first set saw SAU first on the board with a three-point rally, giving the Knights an early lead. The Lady Bears were not shaken as TMU fought back with a five-point rally, featuring kills by Ranavia Neal and Katie Williams, paired with two service aces by Williams. The set remained evenly matched until a six-point rally by the Lady Bears gave TMU a marginal lead. A final kill by Neal offered TMU what was needed to secure set one with a score of 25-18. SAU was once again first on the board in set two, but their momentum was short lived as a nine-point rally by the Lady Bears, featuring kills by Sonya Silecky and Jordan Roberts, paired with two service aces by Macy Boggs sent TMU ahead by seven. The Lady Bears continued to dominate over the Knights, while a final kill by Roberts secured the win in set two (25-18).
 
In the final set, a six-point rally by the Lady Bears, featuring back-to-back kills by Williams and Silecky, left the Knights behind early. TMU continued to dominate, holding the Knights to nine lone points, when a final kill by Williams sealed the deal in set three with a score of 25-9, securing match one 3-0.
 
LEADERS
Williams led the way for the Lady Bears with 15 kills, three block assists and two service aces. Roberts followed with ten kills and two block assists, while Silecky tallied five kills and ten digs. Rylee Simpson recorded 20 assists on the evening, while Emma Boland recorded 13.
 
MATCH 2: TMU vs. FU (25-16, 25-12, 26-24)
In the first set, a kill by Roberts put the Lady Bears up first. The Eagles were quick to retaliate, but proved to be no match for the Lady Bears as TMU recorded a five-point rally of their own. The Lady Bears continued to hold a substantial lead with kills by Williams, Silecky and Neal, while a final error from the Eagles gave TMU set one with a score of 25-16. The second set saw FU first on the board. The set remained evenly matched until a six-point rally by the Lady Bears increased the scoring margin by six. TMU continued to lead the Eagles, growing the deficit by 13 points, when a final kill by Williams gave the Lady Bears set two (25-12).
 
In the final set, a three point-rally featuring kills by Roberts and Katie Williamson, gave TMU an early lead once again. A change in momentum from the visiting team, threatened the Lady Bears lead as the set remained evenly matched. Back-to-back kills by Williams gave the Bears hope to secure the win as the Eagles trailed closely behind. A final kill by Neal paired with an error on FU ultimately sealed the matches fate, as the Lady Bears took down the Eagles with a score of 26-24 and secured their second sweep of the day.
 
LEADERS
Williams led the way once again for TMU with 16 kills and 12 digs. Silecky followed with 11 kills and 16 digs, while Neal had eight kills. Roberts and Williamson each recorded six kills on the evening.

The Lady Bears will be back in action on Friday, October 27, as they host AAC opponent University of Pikeville, inside the Harris Athletic Complex. Match time set for 6:30 p.m.
