Men's Soccer extends win streak to four

CLEVELAND, Ga. (October 18, 2023) – On Wednesday, the Truett McConnell University men's soccer team hosted Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent, Bryan College, where the Bears worked together throughout both halves, proving capable of securing their fourth straight conference victory with a score of 3-0. TMU rises to an overall record of 8-2-2, 6-2-2 AAC, while Bryan falls to an overall record of 8-7-1, 7-4-1 AAC. 

PLAY-BY-PLAY 
The first half saw the Lions first to take a chance at goal, but TMU's Maury Ibarra responded quickly with a shot of his own. A corner kick by Oscar Brennan in the 32nd minute attempted to put the Bears on the board, while a shot by the Lions attempted to pull BC ahead. The Lions dominance on offense was short lived as Keeper Aleksa Lukic remained sharp in goal, ending the half 0-0. 

In the second half the Lions were once again first to move, but a defensive save by Hendrik Metje kept the game scoreless. TMU continued to work hard on offense, taking two back-to-back shots, when a header by Caleb Diaz, assisted by Maury Ibarra, put the Bears up by one (1-0). The Bears kept their momentum rolling as a corner kick by Brennan connected with a stellar header shot by Metje, scoring TMU's second goal of the evening. Three more shots by BC threatened the scoring margin, when a final unassisted goal by Brennan put the Bears in winning position, 3-0. 

LEADERS 
Brennan led the way for the Bears with one goal, one assist, and three shots on goal. Diaz and Metje followed with one goal apiece, while Ibarra had one assist and two shots. Lucan Yates took three shots, while Max Farris took two. Keeper Lukic recorded four saves on the evening. 

UP NEXT 
The Bears will be back in action on Saturday, October 21, as they host Montreat College for an AAC match-up inside the TMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex. Match time set for 4:00 p.m., with Senior Day festivities to begin before kick-off.
