GAINESVILLE, Ga. (January 21, 2023) - The Truett McConnell University women's basketball team traveled to face Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent Brenau University, where the Lady Bears fall late during the fourth quarter (57-69). TMU falls to a record of 5-14, 4-12 AAC, while the Golden Tigers rise to 5-14, 4-13 AAC.
PLAY BY PLAY
The Lady Bears took an early lead with shots in the paint from Jordyn Wilder, Sydnie Smith, and Alysee Dobbs. The Golden Tigers responded with shots of their own, but a shot behind the three-point arc from Kacie Williams kept TMU ahead. A layup and three-point shot from Williams sent the Lady Bears into the second quarter with the lead (16-11). In the second quarter, layups from Destinee Lovejoy and Dobbs continued to add to TMU's lead when the Golden Tigers hit an offensive streak to cut the deficit to two points. Back-to-back layups from Camilla Callihan propelled the Lady Bears forward, where layups from Sydnie Smith and Dobbs sent TMU into the half (34-27).
In the third quarter, the Lady Bears were quick to add to their lead with shots in the paint from Dobbs but the Golden Tigers responded with shots of their own to tie the game. The Golden Tigers stole the lead, but consecutive free throws from Smith and a fastbreak layup from Callihan recaptured TMU's lead. A late shot from the Golden Tigers sent TMU into the final quarter trailing, 45-50. In the fourth quarter, a layup from Dobbs cut the deficit but the Golden Bears were persistent and created a large deficit. Layups from Callihan and Williams gave the Lady Bears hope, but a layup from Dobbs was ultimately not enough as TMU fell short (57-69).
LEADERS
Most notable, Dobbs led the way with a double-double with 20 points, going 9-22 in the paint with 14 rebounds. Callihan followed with 13 points, going 6-9 in the paint and 1-2 at the free-throw line. Williams tallied 10 points, going 2-4 behind the three-point arc with five rebounds. Smith recorded eight points, going 2-2 at the free-throw line.
