Box Score WEST POINT, Ga. (January 17, 2023) - The Truett McConnell University men's basketball team traveled to face Appalachian Athletic Conference member Point University, where the Bears fell short in the final minutes to the Skyhawks (53-59). TMU falls to a record of 8-11, 6-9 AAC, while the Skyhawks rise to 11-8, 11-5 AAC.
PLAY BY PLAY
The Bears were quick to action with a layup from Enocka Franky followed by back-to-back layups from Brent Kelly. The Skyhawks worked hard on offense for an early lead when a layup from Cory Seitz tied the game. Both teams were neck-and-neck until two clutch consecutive layups from Seitz paired with a layup from Kelly saw the Bears' first lead of the game. The Skyhawks quickly responded with shots of their own, where a three-pointer from Cooper Rubio and a layup from CJ Brown kept TMU in the game. A late run included layups from Franky and Brown to send the Bears into the half with a 27-23 lead.
In the second half, the Skyhawks quickly tied the score but a layup from Brown kept TMU ahead. Multiple shots from the Skyhawks created a large deficit, where a layup from Franky and Kafunba Toure worked to cut the deficit. A fastbreak layup from Kelly paired with a shot behind the three-point arc from Seitz cut the margin to four. Two free throws from Kelly and a layup from Setiz cut the lead to two, but a strong response from the Skyhawks grew the deficit. Two late layups from Raul Arias-Ortega gave the Bears some hope, but ultimately was not enough and TMU fell short 53-59.
LEADERS
Seitz led the way with 13 points, going 6-10 in the paint and 1-1 behind the three-point arc. Kelly followed with 12 points, going 4-4 at the free-throw line with four rebounds. Brown recorded seven points, going 3-8 in the paint with seven rebounds. Franky tallied six points, going 3-7 in the paint.
