Women’s basketball steals game from Koalas

CLEVELAND, Ga. (January 14, 2023) - The Truett McConnell University women's basketball team hosted Appalachian Athletic Conference competitor Columbia College, where the Lady Bears' strong offense secured the win against the Koalas (61-48). TMU rises to a record of 5-12, 4-10 AAC, while the Koalas fall to 5-12, 4-10 AAC. 

PLAY BY PLAY
The Lady Bears had a late start until layups from Alysee Dobbs and Camilla Callihan put TMU in the game. Multiple shots in the paint from Dobbs paired with a jump shot from Lila Luettich continued to add to the Lady Bears' lead. A late shot from the Koalas even the playing field, closing the first quarter with a TMU advantage (21-20). In the second quarter, a shot behind the three-point arc from Quan Holton and Asia Gant sparked the Lady Bears' momentum. Fastbreak layups from Dobbs and Jordyn Wilder continued to add to TMU's lead, where the Koalas responded with shots of their own. Both teams were neck-and-neck when a three-pointer and shot in the paint from Callihan sent TMU into the half (42-34).

In the third quarter, the Koalas were first to score but were no match for layups from Dobbs and Holton. Free throws from Sydnie Smith combined with a three-point shot from Gant increased the Lady Bears' lead to 11 points going into the final quarter (61-51). In the fourth quarter, a shot in the paint from Faith Lovejoy and Callihan created a large margin. Layups from Wilder and Callihan were no match for the Koalas, securing a 61-48 victory.

LEADERS
Dobbs led the way with 22 points, going 10-15 in the paint and 2-3 at the free-throw line. Holton followed with 19 points, going 7-14 in the paint with seven rebounds. Callihan recorded 13 points, going 1-6 behind the three-point line. Kacie Williams tallied eight points, going 4-5 in the paint.

UP NEXT
The Lady Bears hit the road on Tuesday, January 17, for an AAC showdown with Point University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
