TMU bests Golden Tigers in AAC Opener

CLEVELAND, Ga. (September 8, 2022) - The Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team hosted Brenau University inside the Harris Athletic Complex for the first Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up of the season. The Lady Bears bested the Golden Tigers in four sets (25-16, 18-25, 29-27, ). TMU's record improves to 6-6, 1-0 AAC, while the Golden Tigers fall to 2-7, 0-1 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

In set one, the Lady Bears started strong with a service ace from Brooklyn Brock. Both teams were neck-and-neck until two consecutive service aces from Deomi Valmus gave TMU a large advantage. The Golden Tigers attempted to work back, but the Lady Bears held them off for a 25-16 win. In the second set, the Golden Tigers fought back hard with an early three-point rally, followed by kills from Katie Williams and Jordan Roberts. The Lady Bears worked to gain control, but was ultimately not enough (18-25).

In set three, the Lady Bears gained momentum with a kill from Roberts to spark a rally. Kills by Williams, Leah Bowen and Sonya Silecky kept TMU ahead of the Golden Tigers, but a late rally tied the set. Both teams rallied, but two clutch serves from Brock secured a 27-25 victory. In the final set, the Lady Bears shut the Golden Tigers down with a six-point rally, while two service aces from Valmus and kills from Bowen, Neal, and Williams secured the advantage. The Golden Tigers worked hard for a comeback, but a kill from Neal sealed the deal and gave TMU their first conference win of the season (25-20).

LEADERS

Williams led the way with 12 kills on the evening, followed by Bowen who tallied 10 of her own. Silecky had an astounding 23 digs, followed by Williams with 19 and Brock with 15. Brock recorded 30 assists on the evening.

UP NEXT

The Lady Bears hit the road to West Point, Ga. on Tuesday, September 13 to battle against AAC opponent, Point University. Match time is set for 6:30 p.m.
