Women’s soccer shows grit in AAC battle at Bryan, Ivanchenko tallies winning goal

DAYTON, Tenn. (September 28, 2022)- The Truett McConnell University women's soccer team traveled to face Appalachian Athletic Conference competitor Bryan College, where the Lady Bears battled with grit for a 1-0 victory. TMU improves to a record of 6-2-1, 5-0 AAC, while the Lions fall to 2-5-1, 1-4 AAC.

PLAY BY PLAY

In the first period, the Lady Bears were seen outshooting the Lions 15-1. TMU started play with a corner kick from Nadiia Ivanchenko, followed by a shot on goal. The Lady Bears were producing shots, with two sets of back-to-back shots on goal from Jette Schulz, Brianna Hernandez, and Eliska Dvorakova. A shot on goal from Lindsey Fowler left the score 0-0 going into the half.

In the second period, TMU was persistent on offense with two shots that missed wide, followed by a blocked shot from Schulz. A shot on goal from Ashley Johnson set the momentum, where the Lady Bears lone goal of the day came from Ivanchenko on a penalty kick (1-0). TMU attempted to add to their lead with a shot on goal from Sydney League, followed by two shots on goal from Johnson. TMU outshot their opponents 15-0 to secure a 1-0 victory over the Lions and remain perfect in AAC play.

LEADERS

Ivanchenko led the way with four shots, three on goal, and one goal. Schulz followed with six shots, four on goal while Johnson recorded five shots, three on goal. Dvorakova produced five shots, with three on goal.

The Lady Bears return to the TMU Soccer Complex to face AAC foe Milligan University on Wednesday, October 5. Match time is set for 7:30 p.m.
