Baseball concludes regular season with final AAC victory over Bryan, record 18 runs

DAYTON, Tenn. (April 29, 2022) – On Friday, the Truett McConnell University baseball team traveled to Dayton, Tenn. for their final regular-season game against Bryan College. The Bear secured a dominating 18-11 win, finishing the regular season with a record of 25-21, 16-14 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
TMU was first to score with an Ethan Roberts double, followed by a Brady Wilson ground out RBI (1-0). Bryan retaliated with four runs of their own (1-4). In the third, Jake Edwards singled and another Wilson hit scored another run (2-4). The Lions were quick to add to their lead with another six runs (2-10). A clutch 13 run fifth inning gave the Bears the lead and was the ultimate game changer. Matt Redmond was hit by a pitch, followed by an Edwards single. A Roberts single, Wilson sacrifice fly, Mikal Mascarello walk and two hit by pitches added three runs (5-10). A Will Ingram grand slam brought the Bears within one, where a Redmond double, Edwards and Roberts single made the score 11-10. A Mascarello three-run shot over the fence secured the lead, making the score 15-10. The Lions added one more run, but TMU scored three more to clinch an 18-11 victory.

LEADERS
Roberts led the way offensively, going 3-4 at the plate with two RBIs and four runs. Edwards followed, going 3-5 with three runs tallied. Wilson was 2-4 at the plate with four RBIs. Ingram was 2-6 with one run tallied and four RBIs.

Pitcher Caleb Johnson recorded the win after pitching through 5.0 innings, while tallying seven strikeouts and allwoing only two runs.

The Bears will travel to Kinsport, Tenn. for a play-in game on Tuesday, May 2. Game time and opponent is to be announced.
