Baseball on top in game one of Milligan series

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (April 22, 2022) – On Friday, the Truett McConnell University baseball team traveled to face Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent, Milligan University, where the Bears secured an 11-1 victory for the first game of the weekend series. TMU improves to a record of 24-17, 15-10 AAC, while the Buffaloes fall to 32-16, 17-8 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
TMU struck early with a Tanner Griffith single, Will Ingram hit by pitch and a Mikal Mascarello single (1-0). A Brady Wilson misplayed ball and an Isaak Mullanack fielder's choice raised the score to 3-0, while TMU added another run with a second Ingram hit by pitch and a Mascarello single (4-0). The Buffaloes scored their only run of the day in the bottom of the third, but the Bears continued to increase the gap(4-1). The top of the sixth saw a Wilson, Cade Kiniry and Jake Edwards walk to load the bases. A clutch double from Sam Reed and a single from Matt Redmond scored four runs (8-1). TMU added three more runs over the next three innings, leading them to a huge 11-1 victory over the Buffaloes.

LEADERS
Mascarello led the way offensively, going 3-4 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs tallied. Griffith was 2-5 with two runs, while Ingram and Wilson were 1-3 with one RBI apiece. Kiniry was 1-4 at the plate, while Reed was 1-4 with two recorded RBIs.
Pitcher Tyler Gray threw seven innings, allowing only six hits and recording five strikeouts. Andrew Fry tallied two strikeouts, while Jared Johnson recorded one strikeout.

UP NEXT
The Bears remain at Milligan University for the last two games of the weekend series on Saturday, April 23. Game two set for a 1:00 p.m. start time.
