Softball concludes regular season with crucial sweep over Milligan

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (April 20, 2022) - On Wednesday, the Truett McConnell University softball team traveled to face Appalachian Athletic Conference foe, Milligan University. The Lady Bears secured a clutch sweep over the Buffaloes with double 5-0 wins. TMU improves to a record of 27-22, 20-8 AAC, while the Buffaloes fall to 23-13, 18-10 AAC. 

GAME 1 | 5-0

In game one, both teams were resilient and evenly matched. The Lady Bears were able to get runners on each inning, but left them stranded. In the fifth inning, TMU busted open with an Alicia Price single, followed by a Briley Lawson homerun (2-0). In the top of the seventh, the Lady Bears started with another Price single, followed by another B. Lawson homerun (4-0). A Mattie Brooks single Mel the momentum rolling, and a Rachel Morgan double scored the final run of the game (5-0). 

LEADERS

Price led the way offensively, going 4-4 at the plate with two runs scored. Justine Kennington followed, going 3-4 at the plate. B. Lawson was 2-4 at the plate, tallying four RBIs and two runs. Brooks was 2-4 with one run tallied.

Pitcher Kyleigh Sanders threw a complete game, recording twelve strikeouts and securing her 10th win of the season.

GAME 2 | 5-0

In game two, TMU scored early with a Price single and B. Lawson walk. Kyndall Gipson singled, scoring one, followed by a Morgan single to score another run (2-0). In the third inning, Gipson singled to center and a Brooks double increased the score to 3-0. In the fifth, Price singled and scored off of a misplayed ball hit by Gipson (4-0). The final run of the day came from a Lexi Simonton single, followed by another Price single and a Gipson fielder's choice, securing a 5-0 victory over the Buffaloes.

LEADERS

Price led the way offensively, going 3-4 at the plate with two runs scored. Gipson followed going 2-4 at the plate with three RBIs and two runs. Simonton was 1-4 and tallied one run while Brooks was 1-4 and tallied one RBI.

Pitcher Karley Hobbs threw a complete game, recording four strikeouts and securing her 14th win of the season.

UP NEXT

The Lady Bears return to the TMU Softball Complex for their non-conference season finale against Georgia Gwinnett College on Thursday, April 21. Game times are set for 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
