Lady Bears conclude season in AAC Tournament opening round

WALESKA, Ga. (April 14, 2022) - The Truett McConnell University lacrosse team traveled to compete in the opening round of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament, where the Lady Bears suffered a tough 25-22 loss against No. 4 Montreat College after battling all four quarters. This is TMUs second consecutive appearance at the tournament. The Lady Bears conclude their 2022 season with a final record of 2-9, 2-5 AAC. 

PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Lady Bears hit the board quick in the top of the first quarter with three back to back goals from Hope Frady, Kaitlyn Morgenroth and Cameron Lee (3-0). Montreat did not fall far behind as they they tallied two goals of their own, but TMU continued to increase the gap with three more goals from Holly Foster, Morgenroth and Lee (6-2). The Cavaliers worked to decrease the gap, while a goals from Foster and Katie Smith sent the Lady bears into the second quarter up by one (8-7). The second quarter saw TMU with the advantage after goals from Sophie Beach, Frady and Morgenroth, but a determined Cavaliers offense put the Lady Bears down by one going into halftime (13-14). 

Montreat dominated i the third quarters, capable of reaching a lead of seven (17-24). The Lady bears showed their grit in the final quarter, working back shot by shot, starting with Fray finding the back of the net with 11 minutes remaining. Foster followed with two goals of her own, along with Frady finding the back of the net once more (21-25). A final shot from Emily Sanders with two minutes left on the clock proved TMUs final goal, leaving the Lady Bears to fall to a score of 22-25. 

LEADERS
Frady led the way with six goals, five assists, five ground balls and 16 shots, 12 on goal. Foster followed with four goals, four assists, seven ground balls and eight shots, six on goal, while Lee had three goals and seven shots, four on goal. Smith and Morgenroth individually had three goals ith six shots, followed by Beach had two goals with six shots. Sanders tallied a single goal and 10 ground balls, while goalie Madison Franklin had 10 saves on the day.
