CLEVELAND, Ga. (April 12, 2022) - The Truett McConnell University softball team returned inside the TMU Softball Complex for an Appalachian Athletic Conference double header against Brenau University on Tuesday, where the Lady Bears clinched the split with final scores of 4-0 and 1-2. TMU is now sitting at a record of 22-21, 15-7 AAC.Â
GAME 1 | 5-0
TMUÂ scored first in the bottom of the first after a misplayed ball hit by
Mattie Brooks, scored
Alicia Price from second (1-0).
Ellie Abner kept the momentum rolling with an RBI single to left field, scoring
Briley Lawson and Brooks to make the score 3-0.
Mikayla Sullens sent the final run of the inning home with an RBI single hit to center field (4-0). The Golden Tigers were unable to lessen the lead, while the Lady Bears continued to show their grit on offense and defense. A ball in play by
Kyndall Gipson in the bottom of the fourth saw TMU score their final run of the game (5-0). Pitcher
Kyleigh Sanders showed no mercy on the mound, recording a total of 11 strikeouts to keep Brenau scoreless for a final score of 5-0.Â
LEADERS
Justine Kennington led the way at the plate, going 2-2 with one run and one walk, while Abner recorded a single hit with two RBIs. Brooks went 1-3 with one run and one RBI, followed by Price who went 1-3 with one run and Sullens who went 1-3 with one RBI. Sanders through a complete 7.0Â innings, featuring 11 strikeouts, three hits, three walks and zero runs scored.Â
GAME 2 | 1-2 (9 Innings)
The Lady Bears took the lead once again in the bottom of the first, after a Gipson single scored
Lexi Simonton from third base (1-0). Pitcher
Karley Hobbs dominated on the mound for the entire game, but the top of the sixth saw the Golden Tigers strike with a run of their own to even the score. Both teams were evenly matched for the reminder, forcing the game into extra innings. In the top of the ninth Brenau pulled ahead with a single run to make the score 1-2. In the final inning, a lead-off single from Morgan showe dhope for the Lady bears, but unfortunately proved not enough as TMU fell 1-2.
LEADERS
Gipson led the way going 1-3 at the plate, with a single RBI, while Morgan went 2-4 at the plate. Simonton followed going 1-5 with one run and Price had one hit of her own. Hobbs pitched 9.0 innings, while recording two strikeouts on the day.Â
