COLUMBIA, S.C. (April 12, 2022) – On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University baseball team traveled to Columbia, S.C. to face Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent, Columbia International University. The Bears suffered a heart-breaking 8-10 loss to the Rams. TMU falls to a record of 18-17, 11-11 AAC, while the Rams improve to 17-26, 7-17 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
In the first inning, TMU started hot with a Tanner Griffith walk, followed by an Andrew Johnston hit by pitch and an Ethan Roberts single to score the first run (1-0). An Isaak Mullanack walk and a couple of misplayed balls led the Bears to score four more runs, leaving the score 5-0 after the top of the first. The Rams retaliated quickly with four runs of their own, making the score after the first 5-4. A Roberts double and a Jake Edwards and Sam Reed individual single scored two more runs (7-4). The Rams retaliated in order to raise their score (7-6). In the fifth inning, bases were loaded and a Mikal Mascarello RBI made the score 8-6, securing their last run of the game. Once again, the Rams responded with a run to come within one (8-7). The Bears ultimately could not score again, leaving the Rams to score three more in the bottom of the seventh (8-10).

LEADERS
Roberts led the way at the plate, going 2-5 with one RBI and two runs. Griffith followed, going 1-4 at the plate with one run. Johnston and Mascarello were both 1-5 at the plate, where Johnston had one run tallied. Reed and Mullanack were both 1-3 at the plate, where Reed had one RBI.
