Softball steals game one from Bryan in extra innings, falls in game two

DAYTON, Tenn. (March 26, 2022) – On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University softball team traveled to compete in an Appalachian Athletic Conference double feature against Bryan College. The Lady Bears forced game one into extra innings to and secured the win (2-0), while game two saw Bryan on top with a final score of 0-1.

GAME 1 | 2-0 (8 INNINGS)

Game one proved a pitchers dual as both teams remained scoreless and forced the game into extra innings. The top of the eighth saw the Lady Bears load the bases, while an Ellie Abner clutch RBI single scored Lexi Simonton from third to steal the lead. Rachel Morgan immediately followed with an RBI single of her own to give TMU a competitive lead (2-0).  Pitcher Kyleigh Sanders remained resilient on the mound to hold off the Lions offense, resulting in a game one victory for the Lady Bears (2-0).

LEADERS
Mikayla Sullens led the way going 2-3 at the plate, while Morgan went 1-4 with a single RBI. Abner recorded a single hit and one RBI, followed by Briley Lawson and Alicia Price who had one hit apiece. Sanders earned the win after pitching 8.0 innings and recorded eight strikeouts, two hits and zero runs.

GAME 2 | 0-1

Game two saw the Lions gain momentum, capable of hitting the board in the bottom of the first inning (0-1). TMU worked hard in the top of the third with runners in scoring position after an Anna Thomas single and Morgan misplayed ball, but a tight Bryan defense held the Lady Bears to a score of 0-1. A Mattie Brooks single in the top of the fourth sparked the inning for TMU, but once again runners were left on base. Pitcher Karley Hobbs showed her grit on the mound to hold off the Lions from scoring, ultimately not enough as the Lady Bears fell to a one run game.
