LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (March 23, 2022) – On Wednesday, the Truett McConnell University baseball team hit the road to face No. 8 Georgia Gwinnett College, where an early lead proved not enough as the Bears fell to a final score of 14-7. TMU is now sitting at a record of 15-12, while the Grizzlies sit at a record of 21-6.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The top of the second inning saw the Bears steal the lead, starting with an RBI single from Griffin Kanelos to score of Matt Redmond from third. Ethan Roberts immediately followed with an RBI single to score Jake Edwards, while Tanner Griffith singled through the left side to score Kanelos (3-0). Isaak Mullanack tallied the final RBI was the inning after laying down a perfect sacrifice bunt to make the score 4-0. TMU kept the momentum going in the top of the third after Roberts struck again with an RBI single to score Edwards (5-0). The Grizzlies were not shaken as they hit the scoreboard in the bottom of the third and stole the lead in the bottom of the sixth (5-14). The Bears worked hard to fight back in the top of the seventh, adding two runs from a Brady Wilson RBI double to left center and a Redmond RBI single left, ultimately not enough as TMU fell 7-14.
LEADERS
Roberts led the way going 3-4 at the plate with two RBIs and one run, followed by Mikal Mascarello who went 2-5 with one run. Wilson went 2-4 with a single RBI, Kanelos went 2-4 with one run and one RBI and Redmond went 1-3 with one run, one RBI and two walks. Pitcher Tyler Gray recorded three strikeouts through 4.2 innings, while Jared Johnson recorded one strikeout and Caleb Johnson recored three strikeouts.
