CLEVELAND, Ga. (March 17, 2022) – The Truett McConnell University baseball team clinched their seventh Appalachian Athletic Conference win of the season on Thursday against Montreat College (5-0). The Bears head in to game two of the series sitting at a record of 13-10, 7-6 AAC, while the Cavaliers are 18-14, 5-8 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

The bottom of the first inning set the pace for the Bears, as a Brady Wilson double to right field scored Mikal Mascarello from third and Isaak Mullanack from second (2-0). Pitcher Tyler Gray and a sharp TMU defense held the Cavaliers offense, while a Griffin Kanelos RBI double in the bottom of the fourth and a Jake Edwards misplayed ball put the Bears up by five. Jared Johnson shut down Montreat in the final two innings from the mound, resulting in a 5-0 victory for the Bears.

LEADERS

Wilson led the way going 2-3 at the plate, along with tallying three RBIs and one run. Mascarello went 2-4 at the plate with one run, while Mullanack went 1-3 with one run. Kanelos recorded a double with one run and one RBI, followed by Edwards who had a single hit. Gray earned his sixth win of the season after pitching 7.0 innings, featuring zero runs, three strikeouts and a single walk.
