KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 16, 2022) - On Wednesday, the Truett McConnell University women's basketball team traveled to face Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent, Johnson University, where the Lady Bears fell short, 62-69. TMU fell to 16-13, 12-11 AAC, while the Royals rose to 3-22, 2-21 AAC.
PLAY BY PLAY
 In the first quarter, the Lady Bears were hot out of the gates with a three point shot from Re'Tavia Floyd. A shot from behind the three point arc from Sydnie Smith gave TMU an early six point advantage. The Royals worked quickly, but three successful free throws from Floyd kept the deficit. JU managed to work ahead, but a three point shot from Alysee Dobbs tied the game. At the end of the first quarter, both teams were tied 19-19. In the second quarter, the Royals were first to score once again. The shots were quickly retaliated with a layup from Chloe Williams, Dobbs and a Floyd three pointer. A jump shot from Jessica Jackson, followed by three consecutive three point shots from Jackson, Sydney Rumble and Natalie Nixon gave a twelve point advantage going into the half, 40-28.
In the third quarter, JU was persistent. A three pointer from Floyd kept the Royals at bay. A hot streak from the Royals made the score even, proceeding to break away with the lead. A layup and free throw from Floyd recaptured the lead going into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Royals were not giving up, making the first shot of the quarter. Back to back layups from Quan Holton and Rumble gave the Lady Bears a two point deficit, but was quickly taken back. A three point shot from Jackson kept the Bears in the game, but the game was put out of reach with a Royals eleven point run, leaving the Lady Bears to fall 62-69.
LEADERS
Floyd led the way offensively with 15 points on the evening, going 4-4 at the free throw line and 3-6 from behind the three point arc. Holton followed with 12 points, going 5-10 from within the paint, and recording six rebounds. Jackson tallied 10 points, going 2-7 from behind the three point arc, and adding six rebounds. Dobbs recorded seven points, going 3-6 from within the paint. Rumble also added five points, going 1-3 from behind the three point arc, and had five rebounds.
