WEST POINT, Ga. (Feb. 10, 2022) - On Thursday, the Truett McConnell University men's basketball team traveled to face Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent, Point University. The Bears suffered a heart-breaking 69-72 loss, and fell to a record of 17-9, 13-8 AAC, while the Skyhawks rose to 13-14, 9-12 AAC.
PLAY BY PLAY
In the first half, the Bears were on a hit stream with a dunk from Enocka Franky, followed by a layup. Brent Kelly and Franky both had a layup each to create a six point deficit. The Bears continued to rally together with free throws from CJ Brown and a three point shot from KJ Riley to increase the advantage to 12 points. The Skyhawks slowly started to work their way back and ended up taking a lead over the Bears. TMU was able to have another rally with a layup from Seitz and a jumper from RJ Bryant. The Skyhawks recaptured the lead, but two free throws from Raul Arias-Ortega and a layup from Brown sent the Bears into the half ahead, 38-34.
In the second half, the Skyhawks were quick to cut the deficit, but the Bears brought in a layup from Kelly and Franky to increase it to six. Back-to-back layups from Brown raised the deficit to 10, but the Skyhawks continued to apply pressure. Layups from Kelly and Kafunba Toure kept TMU in the game. In the last minutes, fouls from the Bears sent the Skyhawks to the free throw line multiple times. Ultimately, the Bears were unable to score again, leading to a 69-72 defeat.
LEADERS
Most notable, Franky had a double-double on the evening with 12 rebounds and 15 points, going 7-8 from within the paint. Kelly led offensively with 18 points, going 8-10 from within the paint and 2-2 at the free throw line. Brown and Toure had 10 points apiece. Brown went 4-6 from within the paint while Toure was 5-10 in the paint. Riley followed with six points, going 1-2 from behind the three point arc, while adding four rebounds.

The Bears will return home to the Benjamin F. Brady Arena to host AAC opponent, Columbia International University on Saturday, Feb. 12. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
