CLEVELAND, Ga. (December 10, 2022) - The Truett McConnell University women's basketball team hosted Appalachian Athletic Conference rival Reinhardt University, where a late run from the Lady Bears was not enough to pull through (53-58). TMU falls to a record of 2-9, 2-8 AAC, while the Eagles rise to 12-3, 11-0 AAC.
PLAY BY PLAY
The Lady Bears fell behind early with a strong run from the Eagles. Three free throws from
Camilla Callihan put TMU on the board, where a fastbreak layup from
Quan Holton worked to decrease the lead. The Eagles continued to add to their lead while a free throw from
Chloe Williams sent the Lady Bears into the second quarter (8-19). Two free throws from
Gwyn Andrews and a free throw from
Sydnie Smith worked to close the margin, while shots from
Quan Holton at the free throw line left the Lady Bears behind by six. Back-to-back layups from Callihan and a crucial free throw from Holton sent TMU into the half trailing by one point (26-27).
At the start of the second half, a layup from Callihan gave the Lady Bears their first lead of the game. The Eagles were quick to respond with shots of their own, until another layup from Callihan cut the deficit. Layups from Holton and
Kacie Williams sparked TMU's momentum, where a free throw from Callihan set TMU up for the final quarter (38-42). In the fourth quarter, TMU was hot out of the gates with a layup from Holton and
Re'Tavia Floyd to tie the game. Both teams were neck-and-neck, seeing a three pointer from Williams and a jump shot from Smith to recapture the lead for TMU. The Eagles quickly responded with a seven point run, leaving TMU to work from behind. A layup from Williams was the Lady Bears final hope, but proved not enough, leaving TMU to fall 53-58.
LEADERS
Holton recorded a double-double, going 5-8 within the paint and recording 10 rebounds. Callihan led with 16 points, going 6-10 at the free throw line with five rebounds. Wiliams followed with seven points, going 1-2 behind the three point line, while Floyd tallied five points, going 1-2 at the free throw line.

The Lady Bears remain inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena on Thursday, December 15, to face AAC member, Carolina University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
