CLEVELAND, Ga. (Nov. 12, 2022) - The Truett McConnell University women's basketball team hosted Appalachian Athletic Conference member Johnson University, where the Lady Bears stumbled in the final quarter, suffering a 50-56 loss. TMU falls to a record of 1-3, 1-2 AAC, while the Royals rise to 1-2, 1-2 AAC.
PLAY BY PLAY
The Lady Bears had to work hard from behind early, where a layup from Quan Holton put TMU on the board. A layup from Sydnie Smith and a free throw from Camilla Callihan evened the score until the Royals broke away. Free throws from Holton left TMU trailing by eight points after the first quarter. In the second quarter, a shot from behind the three-point arc from Smith got TMU rolling, where a jump shot from Kacie Williams and Alysee Dobbs closed the margin. Three consecutive layups from Holton, Dobbs and Re'Tavia Floyd gave the Lady Bears their first advantage over the Royals. A shot from the Royals recaptured the lead, sending TMU into the half down by one point (23-24).
In the third quarter, a consecutive five points from Floyd gave the Lady Bears an early lead, where back-to-back layups from Callihan and Holton created a deficit. TMU carried the lead through the quarter with three-pointers from Dobbs and Floyd, sending them into the final quarter with a 42-39 lead. In the final quarter, the Royals worked from behind to steal the lead. Both teams were evenly matched when a layup from Callihan, followed by two free throws gave TMU the advantage. A final layup from Callihan was the Lady Bears last advantage, where fouls sent the Royals to the free throw line and left TMU to fall, 50-56.
LEADERS
Callihan led the way with 15 points, going 4-6 within the paint. Floyd followed with 11 points, going 3-4 at the free-throw line. Holton tallied 10 points, going 2-2 at the free-throw line with six rebounds on the day. Dobbs closed out with seven points and collected seven rebounds of her own.
