DENMARK, S.C. (October 29, 2022) - The Truett McConnell University men's basketball team traveled to Voorhees College, where the Bears dropped their season opener to the Tigers (52-65). TMU starts the season out 0-1, while the Tigers are 1-0.

Both teams were evenly matched from the start, with a layup from Brent Kelly starting the Bear's momentum. The Tigers were quick to take a lead, but freethrows from Cory Seitz and a jumper from Kafunba Toure brought TMU within margin. A three-pointer from EJ Smith gave the Bears their first lead of the day, followed by a jumper from CJ Brown to add to their lead. A shot in the paint from Raul Arias-Ortega and Anderson Mwasele sent the Bears into the half ahead 28-23.Â
In the second half, the Bears started with a layup from KJ Riley followed by a layup from Enocka Franky. The Tigers slowly started to work their way back, where a layup fand a shot in the paint from Seitz kept TMU's lead. A late rally from the Tigers propelled them ahead to capture the lead and leave the Bears to fall, 52-65.

LEADERS
Kelly led the way with nine points, going 4-7 within the paint, while tallying eight rebounds. Seitz and Arias-Ortega tallied nine points apiece, while Franky recorded five rebounds. Riley tallied six points while Smith and Toure had five points apiece. Â
