Lady Bears snap Ram's perfect AAC streak

CLEVELAND, Ga. (September 25, 2021) - The Truett McConnell University women's soccer team remain perfect in Appalachian Athletic Conference play after besting Columbia International University Saturday, inside the TMU Soccer Complex, with a final score of 8-1. The Lady Bears extended their win streak to four, along with improving to a season record of 7-1, 4-0 AAC, while CIU fell to a record of 6-2, 3-1 AAC. 
 
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Lady Bears were hot out of the gates, taking a shot within the first 47 seconds of the period. TMU was resilient on offense, as Eliska Dvorakova scored the first goal at the seven-minute mark (1-0). Not long after, Hannah Logue struck with the second goal of the day after a 1v1 with the goalie, off an assist by Lauren Bergevine (2-0). The Lady Bears were resilient on offense, scoring their third goal at the 25-minute mark (3-0). The Rams took two shots, but failed to succeed as Ashleigh Smitherman made the fourth goal of the evening (4-0). Before the first period finished, Ruffa Meger, Natalie Alamri, and Amayia Lukie all had shots-on-goal.
 
The second period began with a TMU corner kick from Dvorakova and Sydney League. Logue took another chance at the goal and succeeded at the 55-minute mark (5-0), bu te Rams immediately retaliated with their only goal of the game (5-1). The Lady Bears were aggressive as they continued to dominate on the visitor's side of the field. League provided a goal at the 61-minute mark, while Dvorakova provided another goal at the 66-minute mark (7-1). In the 72nd minute, Dvorakova had a penalty kick that fell short. However, Kendra Wilbert rallied through and provided the final goal of the evening off a header from an earned corner (8-1).
 
LEADERS
Logue led the way with a hat trick of three goals and five shots. Dvorakova followed up with two goals and seven shots, five on goal, while League, Smitherman and Wilbert tallied a goal apiece. Alamri had five shots, Meger had two shots and Bergevine recorded a single assist. Goalie Emelie Taylor had one save on the day.

Women's soccer is back inside the TMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex Wednesday, Sept. 29, where they will face AAC foe, Bryan College, under the lights, with kickoff set for 5:00 p.m.
