WEST POINT, Ga. (Mar. 19, 2021) – The Truett McConnell University baseball team traveled to Point University for their third Appalachian Athletic Conference weekend series of the season. Despite a strong four-run first inning by TMU, the Bears fell late after Point recorded a four-run inning of their own in the eighth (6-4). The loss put TMU at 11-10, 2-5 AAC on the season, while the Skyhawks, who are receiving votes in the latest NAIA national top 25 poll, improved to 13-6, 7-2 AAC.

EARLY LEAD, LATE FALL
A pair of walks by
Will Ingram and
Josh Johnston fueled the first inning for the Bears. Pinch runner
Ethan Roberts ran home on a Point defensive error to get TMU up on the board first (1-0). Another defensive error allowed two more runs for the Bears (3-0), while
Devyn Munroe capped off the inning with a sacrifice squeeze bunt driving home
Cason King (4-0). Four more innings went by without either team capable of scoring until the Skyhawks tripled in the bottom of the sixth, which led to their first run (4-1).
Â
The Skyhawks added another run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly (4-2) but it was the bottom of the eighth that ultimately proved to be the difference as Point scored four more runs to take the lead for good (4-6). The Bears, however, did get three on base at the top of the ninth but it proved not enough as TMU was held scoreless once again as the Skyhawks clinched their first win of the weekend by two (4-6).

LEADERS
