GAINESVILLE, Ga. (Mar. 16, 2021) - The No. 17 Truett McConnell University men's golf team competed in the Golden Tigers Spring Invitational on Monday at the Chattahoochee Golf Club. Round two was cancelled due to weather, ultimately resulting in a runner-up finish for the Bears with a team score of 307, while Tennessee Wesleyan University finished first with 301.
TMU bested Appalachian Athletic Conference foes Bryan College (313), No. 18 Reinhardt University (316), Columbia International University (320), Montreat College (320) and Union College (341).
"It was disappointing to have the final round washed out from the rain," Head Coach
Steve Patton said. "The players played in tough conditions in round one and performed admirably. Michael's performance in round one, being the only player in the field to shoot under par, was incredible!"
Michael Osborne finished first in a deep field of 57 golfers, which is his first collegiate career individual win. The sophomore shot an impressive 71 in windy conditions. Fifth-year
Luke Peavy tied for 10th with a 77, while junior
Jhett Lewis followed by a stroke tied for 14th (78). Freshman
Nate Thornton and sophomore
Vic Mincey rounded out TMU's results, also finishing one stroke apart, in 31st and 35th. Thornton carded an 81 and Mincey carded an 82, respectively.
