CLEVELAND, Ga. (Mar. 12, 2021) – A dominating seventh inning proved to be the difference in the Truett McConnell University baseball team's game one win (11-3) on Friday evening at the TMU Baseball Complex. The Bears improved to 11-7, 2-2 AAC on the season, while the Knights fell to 8-7, 3-4 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
After a leadoff double, the Knights got up on the board in the first (0-1), but
Josh Johnston matched it in the bottom half on freshman
Mikal Mascarello's sacrifice fly to left-center (1-1). Mascarello put the Bears out front in the bottom of the third on King's single to right-center (2-1) but SAU scored on a single of their own to make it even again (2-2). The Knights added one more in the sixth (2-3) but that would be the last time for SAU the rest of the way.

Freshman
Cason King smacked a triple to deep right-center in the bottom of the seventh, which scored three runs (5-3), fueling the winning inning for TMU.
Mason Gaines followed up with a single to deep left-center to drive home King (6-3) and
Tanner Griffith doubled to center to score
Julian Galassi and
Ethan Roberts (8-3). TMU's dominating seventh inning was capped off by J. Johnston's single up the middle, which scored Griffith (9-3). The Bears added two more in the eighth (11-3) while continuing to hold the Knights scoreless as the game proved to be out of reach for SAU.

LEADERS
Overall, TMU outhit SAU 14-5 and was led by King who went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, two runs and one walk.
Andrew Johnston went 2-for-2 with two runs and two walks. Griffith went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run. J. Johnston added two hits and an RBI, while Mascarello went 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.

Craig Barton made the start for TMU throwing 4.2 innings of four hits, two runs, two walks and three strikeouts.
Andrew Fry earned the win throwing 1.1 innings of one hit and one strikeout.
Jared Johnson and
Jonathan Joiner each tallied two strikeouts.
