Lady Bears finish regular season with strong AAC road win

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Feb.  17, 2021) – The Truett McConnell University women's basketball team traveled to Columbia International University on Wednesday evening for their regular season finale to pick up a big Appalachian Athletic Conference win (77-66) over the Rams. TMU finished the regular season at 12-13, 9-13 AAC, while the Rams fell to 12-14, 10-12 AAC. Last time they met, the Rams beat the Lady Bears 81-68 inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena in December.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
After falling behind by four in the first quarter, both teams scored 19 in the second quarter, which put TMU at a four-point deficit at the half (34-38). However, it was only up from there for the Lady Bears.

The Rams only outscored by one throughout the third quarter as TMU came in from behind by as little as one point, but it was Re'Tavia Floyd's bucket in the paint that fueled the winning quarter for the Lady Bears. Quan Holton drained a 3-pointer with 4:54 to go to give TMU their first lead of the game (62-61) and the Lady Bears never looked back. TMU got out front by as much as 12 points as they rallied to outscore CIU by 14 (29-15) in the final 10 minutes of regulation, which ultimately proved to be the difference.

LEADERS
Holton led the way with a career high of 27 points, including going 3-for-4 from behind the 3-point line, and eight rebounds. Floyd followed with 14 points and three steals, while senior Sierra Kendall had 13 points, six rebounds and two blocks. Junior Aisya Davis added six points and freshman Sydnie Smith led with four assists.

UP NEXT
The Lady Bears will wait to find out who they will face for the AAC tournament play-in game on Saturday, Feb. 20.
