LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (Feb. 12, 2021)- The Truett McConnell University softball team opened their 2021 season at No. 10 Georgia Gwinnett College on Friday, where they fell in the bottom of the seventh in game one to a score 6-5 and fell in game two with a score of 7-1, which kept the Grizzlies perfect on the year.
GAME ONE 6-5 | SEVENTH INNING FALL
The first game saw the Grizzlies score first in the bottom of the second (0-1), but TMU did not fall behind for long as they made the score even in the top of third with an Ellie Abner single up the middle, which scored Sara Sullivan from second (1-1). The Lady Bears kept GGC scoreless in the bottom of the third and carried the momentum into the top of the fourth where a Lauren Barrett double to left-center scored Alicia Price (2-1), followed by a single to shallow right-center by Sullivan, which allowed Barrett to score on the batted ball (3-1). Briley Lawson topped off the inning with a two-run homerun over the left-field fence to put TMU ahead by four (5-1).
The Lady Bears held the lead up until the bottom of the seventh, when GGC put five runs together, including a two-run homerun over the right field fence, along with a double to deep right with two outs to win the game with a final score of 5-6.
LEADERS
Sullivan led the way going 2-for-4 at the plate with a single RBI, followed by Lawson who went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Barrett and Abner tallied one hit and RBI apiece, while senior Katherine Kozlowski, sophomores Justine Kennington and Mattie Brooks individually had one hit of their own.
GAME TWO 7-1
The second game once again saw the Grizzlies score first (0-1), but the Lady Bears were quick to respond with a run of their own in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly to deep center from Barrett, which scored Kozlowski from third (1-1). The score remained even until the fifth inning when GGC got back out front by four runs (1-5) and added two more in the bottom of the sixth to make the final score 1-7.
LEADERS
Kennington led TMU in game two going 2-for-3 at the plate, followed by Sullivan who went 1-for-3, including a walk. Senior Sarah Wills, Lawson and Brooks tallied a hit apiece, while Barrett had a RBI.

The Lady Bears travel to Middle Georgia State for a double header on Tuesday, Feb 16, with game times at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
