Box Score CLEVELAND, Ga. (December 4, 2021) - On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University men's basketball team hosted Appalachian Athletic Conference Opponent, Point University, inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena. The Bears dominated the Skyhawks with a final score of 85-71. TMU improved to a record of 5-4, 3-4 AAC, while the Skyhawks fell to a record of 6-6, 3-4 AAC.
PLAY BY PLAY
In the first period, both teams were resilient from the start. A shot in the paint from Kafunba Toure gave the Bears their first lead of the day. The Skyhawks responded with shots of their own, stealing the lead. An Enocka Franky jumper in the paint stole the lead back, followed by a foul on Akil Covington which led to two successful free throws and a shot from behind the three point arc to add to the lead. The Bears continued to rally with a layup from CJ Brown, a three pointer from Donavon Stokes Jr. and successful free throws from EJ Smith. A jumper from Cory Seitz gave TMU a 43-38 lead going into halftime.
In the second period, the Bears continued to widen the gap with a jumper from Brent Kelly, a three pointer from Smith and a layup from KJ Riley. The Bears created a 13 point lead from a RJ Bryant three pointer. Three consecutive layups from Brown created an unreachable gap for TMU, ultimately resulting in an 85-71 dominating win for the Bears.
LEADERS
Most notable, Franky had a double-double on the evening with 12 points, going 6-10 within the paint, and 13 rebounds. Riley led the way with 17 points on the evening, going 5-5 at the free throw line and 2-2 from behind the three point arc. Smith tallied 16 points on the evening, going 4-6 from behind the three point line. Brown added 12 points of his own, going 6-9 from within the paint. Kelly and Covington tallied seven points a piece on the evening.
